Providers who serve our commercial members are invited to partner with us in a diabetic retinopathy screening event. Our Quality Improvement Program will bring the event to your office at your convenience and at no cost to members who are due for their screening.
About the event: We’re offering this initiative to expand resources for providers and to promote preventive care by delivering convenient, in-clinic screenings for members. To participate in the event, the member must:
- Participate in a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas commercial plan (HMO, PPO or individual and family market plan)
- Have a diagnosis of type I or type II diabetes mellitus
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be due or overdue for diabetic retinopathy screening
What we need from you: Our team will manage all aspects of the screening process, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free experience for both you and our members during your normal business hours. All that we ask of you is help with scheduling your patients for this screening event.
Next steps: Please call our Quality Improvement team at 800-863-9798 or email us if you are interested in participating or would like additional information.
About the screening: A nurse with the BCBSTX Quality Improvement Program will perform the screenings with a Welch Allyn RetinaVue 700 Imager. The screenings are noninvasive, without the need for dilation drops. A licensed ophthalmologist will review the results, which will be shared with you for appropriate follow-up.
Learn more: Annual eye exams are encouraged for patients with diabetes. We track a quality measure to close care gaps for our members with diabetes.
